Introduction: The use of steroids and other supplements may affect body tissues, including the liver. This study aimed to investigate the effect of trenbolone steroid and CJC peptide during two months of resistance training on liver damage in adult male rats.
Methods: 40 male Wistar rats (aged 8 weeks and weighing 180–220 g) were randomly divided into four groups of 10: control, exercise-trenbolone, exercise-CJC, and exercise. Resistance training was performed for eight weeks, three sessions per week. Simultaneously with training, the specified injections were administered to the trenbolone and CJC groups once a week into the gluteal and posterior thigh muscles at a dose of µg/kg body weight. After the intervention, body weight, 5 liver weight-to-body weight ratio, and liver damage were assessed using light microscopy. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc test at a significance level of P < 0.05 were used to analyze the data.
Results: The groups receiving trenbolone and CJC peptide did not show a significant increase in body weight compared with the other groups P ≥ 0.05. However, the liver weight-to-body weight ratio in the trenbolone group was significantly different from that in the training and control groups. Vascular hyperemia, fatty vacuoles, inflammation, and degeneration in the liver of the trenbolone and CJC peptide groups were significantly more pronounced than in the control and exercise groups (P≤0.05).
Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, signs of liver damage were found in the rats that received these anabolic steroids
