Background : With increasing life expectancy, women will live longer into menopause, and as menopause progresses, they become more vulnerable to physical and psychological problems that can lead to functional limitations or increased mortality. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of motivational counseling on promoting the health of menopausal women in Arak city.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. 40 people were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to 2 experimental and control groups. After the pre-test, the experimental group underwent 8 motivational counseling sessions, each session lasting 90 minutes, and then a post-test was administered to both groups. The data collection tool was a demographic checklist and a health-promoting lifestyle questionnaire. SPSS version 25 and descriptive statistics, independent t-test, paired t-test, and chi-square test were used to analyze the data.
Ethical considerations: This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Arak University of Medical Sciences with the ethics code IR.ARAKMU.REC.1399.028 and informed consent was obtained from the participants.
Findings: The mean scores of the Health Promoting Lifestyle Questionnaire and its other components were significantly different in the two groups (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Motivational counseling can promote a healthy lifestyle in menopausal women by creating positive changes in health behaviors.
