Introduction: Brucellosis remains one of the most significant endemic zoonotic diseases in Kermanshah Province, where public awareness plays a pivotal role in its prevention and control. University students, as an educated and influential segment of society, can contribute substantially to shaping health-promoting behaviors and supporting effective educational strategies. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and awareness of university students regarding brucellosis in Kermanshah Province, providing baseline data for developing regional policies and improving health education programs.
Methods: A descriptive-analytical cross-sectional survey was conducted using a standardized questionnaire based on the Likert scale. The study included 343 students selected from various academic fields and educational levels. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests, regression analysis, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient with a 95% confidence interval (P<0.05). All ethical considerations were observed throughout the research process.
Results: The results indicated a statistically significant association between students’ knowledge and attitudes toward brucellosis and variables such as gender, academic level, and field of study (P<0.05). Male students, those in higher academic levels, and those from biological sciences exhibited higher awareness scores. The internet and social networks were identified as the most influential sources of information.
Conclusion: The findings highlight the influence of demographic and educational factors on students’ awareness of brucellosis. Enhancing baseline knowledge about the disease, its transmission routes, clinical complications, and preventive measures requires strengthened public health education, improved preventive policies, and targeted use of digital media and communication platforms. Such interventions are essential for reducing disease incidence in endemic regions and promoting overall community health.
