Introduction: The increasing use of electromagnetic waves in industry and medicine, especially in diagnostic devices such as MRI, necessitates a comprehensive study of the effects of electromagnetic fields on the activity of various organs.
Methods: The present study investigated changes in some blood parameters and sex hormones in the MRI department staff of Amir-ol-Momenin Hospital in Ahvaz. For this purpose, 60 hospital personnel were selected and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (MRI department staff) and a control group (other department staff). SPSS-22 software and independent t-test statistical method were used to analyze the data.
Results: Data analysis showed that the levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and testosterone did not show significant differences in the two groups. In the study of blood parameters, a significant difference was observed in the levels of white blood cells and platelets in the experimental group compared to the control group, but no significant differences were observed in other blood parameters between the two groups.
Conclusion: Exposure to electromagnetic fields does not necessarily lead to negative effects, and its potential risks can be active, inhibitory, or suppressive, depending on physiological characteristics, radiation dose, and duration of exposure.
